Dhaka (International Desk) An eight-year-old girl who was raped in Bangladesh died of her injuries, after which severe protests have erupted across the country.

According to a foreign news agency, a case filed by the mother of the raped girl, the girl was raped in Magura city on the night of March 5 when she was at her elder sister’s house.

After the case was registered, the 18-year-old husband of the girl’s elder sister has been arrested along with her parents and brother.

On hearing the news of the girl’s death late at night, an angry mob stormed the house where the incident allegedly took place and set the house on fire.

The girl died of a heart attack on Thursday, according to a government department statement. The statement said that although doctors tried twice to stabilize her condition, her heart failed to start working again.

According to local media, after the girl’s death, her mother said, “I thought my daughter would survive and if she had lived longer, I would never let her go alone again.”

The girl’s body was taken back to Magura by an army helicopter, where residents of the area were protesting strongly against the incident.

It may be recalled that the girl was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka in a critical condition on March 8, where she spent six days in critical condition.
