Riyadh (Pakistan News Online) Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria, after 12 years.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the opening ceremony of the Saudi Embassy in Damascus was attended by Syrian government officials, diplomats and scholars.

The opening of the Saudi embassy is an important day in the history of relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia, The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Earlier in May this year, Saudi Arabia decided to appoint an ambassador to Syria after 12 years and appointed Faisal Al-Mujfail as its new ambassador to Syria.

In 2012, Saudi Arabia closed its embassy in Syria and recalled its ambassador after the civil war in Syria. It’s also noteworthy that Syria reopened its embassy in the Saudi capital Riyadh in December last year.
