Lahore (Pakistan News) Recent poor show in the Test series against Bangladesh seems to have triggered a trend on social media that called for Babar Azam’s retirement from Test cricket. Pakistan lost the two-match Test series and this defeat drew severe criticism towards the whole team and also for Babar Azam.
Amidst this, a fake social media post claiming that Babar Azam has announced his retirement from Test cricket has gone viral. The post, attributed to Babar Azam, was so meticulously crafted that it appeared authentic at first glance.
The fake message, which started circulating on Monday evening, quoted Babar Azam as saying, “After much thought, I have decided to retire from Test cricket.” The message further stated, “This decision comes at a time when, over the past year, I have struggled to regain my form and deliver the performances in Test cricket that I have always aspired to.”
This sensational but fake announcement was actually posted from parody accounts of Babar Azam, and it quickly went viral, misleading many social media users.
It is worth noting that Babar Azam has been consistently “out of form” in the Test format. In the second innings of the second Test against Bangladesh, he was dismissed for just 11 runs. As the captain of the white-ball team, Babar Azam has managed to score only 331 runs in his last 106 Test innings, without a single fifty.
