Karachi (Technology Desk)There is a risk that the cost of repairing old mobile phones will increase and the prices of mobile phones assembled in Pakistan will increase.
The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi has fixed a new customs value for mobile phone screens imported from China and Hong Kong, after which the cost of repairing old mobile phones is likely to increase. While the prices of manufacturers who assemble mobile phones in Pakistan are also likely to increase.
According to a valuation rolling issued on Tuesday, the new valuation rolling number 1979/2025 has canceled the old valuation rolling number 1576/2021.
It should be noted that the customs value of the said items was unchanged since 2021. However, in view of the analysis of import data, current market trends, price differences and changes in customs value, the process of determining new customs value of these goods was initiated under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969.
During this process, the relevant stakeholders were consulted and their views were heard in detail. They were asked to submit their import documents to substantiate their views.
For determining customs value, data for the last 90 days was obtained and after thorough examination, the transaction value of the specific goods was determined.
Thereafter, it was decided that the customs value of the given goods would be used for estimating duties and taxes.
