Panama City (international Desk) 300 stranded people, including Pakistanis deported from the US, have appealed to the world for help.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, 300 Pakistanis, including others deported by the US, have been kept in a hotel in Panama. The hotel located on the beach has been temporarily converted into a detention center to keep people deported from the US.
In videos of migrants circulating on foreign media and social media, women and men were seen waving placards with messages like ‘help us’ and ‘we are not safe in our country’ written on them from the windows of hotel rooms. The 300 migrants deported from the US belong to Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, China, Iran and other countries.
According to Express News, officials say that these migrants will not be allowed to return home until international authorities arrange for their return.
After being sworn in as US President, Donald Trump declared a national emergency on the South American border and declared the deportation of millions of migrants. Panamanian President Jose Raul Melino has offered the Trump administration to temporarily hold migrants deported from the US in his country.
Panamanian officials say that the migrants are being provided with medical care and food under a migration agreement between the US and Panama. Of the 200 people deported to the US, 171 have expressed their willingness to return to their country with the help of international refugee agencies.
