The Punjab government, in collaboration with Dewan Motors, has finalized the launch of electric taxis under this scheme, the cars are Honri VC20 and Honri VC30.

Eligibility Criteria

the applicant has mimimum 21 years old, having valid driving license and must be the resident of specific area in punjab. driving experience is plus point but no necessory.

According to the documents, under the e-taxi scheme, any company will be able to acquire two to three hundred e-taxis in the corporate model, while at the individual level, citizens will be provided with this facility on easy installments through Bank of Punjab.

The Excise Department will provide 95 percent discount on registration and token tax of e-taxis, and carbon credit will also be given to the owners. The services of a consultancy firm have been hired for this project, which will select the locations for setting up e-taxi parking hubs and charging stations in Lahore.

Bank of Punjab will be responsible for preparing the financial and business model of the project, shortlisting of manufacturers and distribution of vehicles. Currently, there are 69,000 registered taxis and 424,000 registered drivers in Punjab, while 1.5 million people travel through private taxi services daily.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has instructed the transport department to collaborate with banks and financial institutions to develop financial models that allow for easy repayment, facilitating eventual ownership of the taxis.

During a meeting with officials from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company, Memon was briefed on the environmental benefits of EVs. He highlighted that the project aligns with the provincial government’s vision of reducing emissions while addressing rising unemployment rates.

The initiative is expected to launch soon, with the first batch of EV taxis aimed at offering an affordable transport solution for Sindh.
