TASHKENT (International Desk) Uzbekistan has returned 7 Black Hawk helicopters to the US, which Afghan army pilots rescued from the Taliban in 2021 and delivered to the Central Asian state.

According to a foreign news agency report, Kabul had demanded that the helicopters be returned to Afghanistan, while US President Donald Trump urged the Taliban to return American weapons to Washington.

The US had invested billions of dollars in the Afghan army for two decades after the September 11, 2001 attacks and overthrew the Taliban government.

Sources at the US embassy in Tashkent said that we have acquired these 7 helicopters. The US broadcaster quoted Pentagon officials as saying that Washington has recently recovered out-of-service helicopters, in which Afghan army pilots who fled the Taliban advance flew to Uzbekistan in 2021.

The Central Asian state has a short border with Afghanistan in the south. Information is tightly controlled in the Central Asian country.
