Washington ( Pakistan News Online) Social media platform TikTok has helped US police solve a three-year-old murder case and arrest a suspect.
According to CNN, the suspect, identified as Benjamin Williams, allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend Joanna Pica in Florida three years ago. US Marshals arrested him in Mexico City after a TikTok user recognized him through a photo in a video.
The video, which showed a report by a Florida news channel, was posted by TikTok influencer Jasmine Alexander, whose crime-related account has more than 2.8 million followers.
According to police, Williams shot Joanna Pica in the face in July 2021. He convinced Joanna to meet him at a cemetery in St. Petersburg by saying he wanted to see his infant son. But while she was sitting in the van with her son, Williams allegedly shot her multiple times in the face, killing her.
Joanna’s two sons were also in the car at the time of the incident, but both children were unharmed. According to police, Joanna was holding her four-month-old son in her arms when she was shot, while her older son was sitting in the back seat and witnessed the entire incident with his own eyes.
Now, three years later, Williams has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of child abuse. He is being held without bail in the Pinellas County Jail, according to CNN.
