Hyderabad (Pakistan News Online) A 25-year-old man ended his life in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh after loan app agents sent edited obscene pictures of his wife to friends and family members. The incident has rekindled concerns about the inhuman and criminal behavior of these apps.
According to NDTV, Narendra, who was a fisherman, had an intercast love marriage with Akhla on October 28. Both lived in Visakhapatnam. Due to bad weather, Narendra could not go fishing for a few days, which led to financial difficulties.
To meet his expenses, Narendra took a loan of Rs 2,000 from an app. Within a few weeks, loan app agents started harassing him to repay the loan and started sending obscene messages.
The agents sent edited pictures of his wife to his friends and family members. When the pictures came to Akhla’s phone, she told her husband and he came to know about the loan. Both decided to repay the entire loan amount, but even then the harassment did not end.
People started calling Narendra and asking about the pictures, which broke him inside. Feeling heartbroken and humiliated, Narendra committed suicide on Tuesday. The incident happened just six weeks after their wedding.
This is the third incident reported from Andhra Pradesh in a week. A young woman in Nanded district also faced harassment from loan app agents, after which she attempted suicide, but was saved by the police.
Loan apps provide instant loans as they make the documentation process easy, but their attitude towards recovering the loan is often inhumane and harsh. Several incidents of harassment by such apps have been reported in Pakistan as well.
