Mumbai (Pakistan News Online) Indian music composer A.R. Rahman’s wife, Saira Banu, announced her separation from the Husband on Tuesday night, confirming the news in a statement issued to the press.
According to details, The couple, who had been married for 29 years, has decided to part ways after what was described as a period of significant emotional strain in their relationship.
A statement released through their lawyer to Indian media reads, “After years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from Mr. A.R. Rahman. This decision comes after considerable emotional tension between them.”
Despite their enduring love for each other, they reportedly felt an unbridgeable gap had formed, which neither party was able to overcome.
The statement also notes, “Mrs. Saira emphasized that the decision was made with pain and sorrow, and she requests privacy and understanding from the public as they navigate this challenging time.”
A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu were married in an arranged marriage in 1995, arranged by Rahman’s mother. In a past interview with Simi Garewal, Rahman shared that he asked his mother to choose a bride for him as he was deeply occupied with his music career. “I was busy with films like Rangeela and knew it was time for me to get married, so I asked my mother to find a simple girl who wouldn’t trouble me, so I could focus on my music,” he said.
The couple has three children: daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen Rahman. Rahman’s eldest daughter, Khatija, was married in 2022, and the composer shared a family photo from the event, which included a tribute to his late mother.
