Karachi (Pakistan News Online) In a historic first for Pakistan, a passenger plane is being transported by road from Karachi to Hyderabad.
According to sources, this is the country’s inaugural operation to transfer a commercial aircraft between cities via roadways. A specialized truck and trailer are being used for the task, and the plane will be stationed at the Civil Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad, where it will serve as a training tool.
Transporter Humayun Khalid shared details, noting that the Boeing 737 aircraft measures 110 feet in length and weighs 40 tons. Although it is non-operational, it originally had the capacity to carry 240 passengers. The plane was moved from Karachi Airport to the Superhighway late at night and is currently en route to Hyderabad.
The Motorway Police, which is providing a special escort for the plane, has assured that traffic will not be disrupted on the motorway as the transport vehicle will stay on the road’s shoulder. Representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, a private company, and the transport team will accompany the operation.
In a related note, Pakistani drivers have long been recognized for their skill in transporting planes over land in Saudi Arabia, where similar operations have been conducted. These drivers often play a key role in complex logistics operations, reflecting the expertise of Pakistani transport professionals in challenging tasks.
