Islamabad (Pakistan News Online): Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, highlighting the complexities of the current global environment. He noted that two major conflicts are underway, each having varied global implications.
During his speech, Jaishankar congratulated Pakistan on assuming the presidency of the SCO and expressed India’s full support for a successful tenure. “We are meeting at a time when the world is facing complex challenges. Two major conflicts are ongoing, with different global impacts. COVID-19 has severely affected developing nations, and the burden of debt remains a serious issue. The world is lagging behind in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs),” he said.
The Indian foreign minister emphasized the importance of sincere dialogue and collaboration. “We need honest conversations. The world is moving towards a multipolar system. Cooperation should be based on genuine partnerships, not unilateral agendas. Mutual respect and equality of sovereignty are essential,” Jaishankar stressed, adding that respecting each other’s territorial integrity is crucial.
He also discussed the economic impact of climate change, stating that debt burdens are hindering the achievement of SDGs. “The debt crisis remains a serious challenge,” he said.
Jaishankar concluded by reflecting on the core principles of the SCO. “The SCO aims to strengthen mutual trust, foster friendships, and promote good neighborly relations. These principles are clearly outlined in Article One of the SCO Charter,” he said.
