Tokyo (Pakistan News Online) Nobuyo Oyama, the woman who gave her voice to the character of the Japanese robotic cartoon cat Doraemon, has died at the age of 90.
Voice artist Nobuyo Oyama, known as the raspy voice of Doraemon, served as the voice of Doraemon from 1979 to 2005. She passed away on September 29, 2024, of natural causes, her agency Actors Seven announced on Friday.
Based on the friendship between a boy named Doraemon and Nobita, the cartoon became a hit among children, the animated series is loved by millions of fans in Japan and around the world, and has been translated into dozens of languages.
Born in Tokyo in 1933, Nobuyo made her acting debut in 1956 with a drama on Japan’s NHK public television. She got her first voice acting role in 1957 in the dubbed version of the TV drama series Lassie.
