Lahore (Pakistan News online) The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced a significant increase in toll taxes on national highways and motorways, including M1, M4, and M5, with rates rising by up to 30%. The new rates came into effect today, October 1, 2024.

Key Details:

  • On the M1 Motorway (Islamabad to Peshawar), the toll for cars has increased from Rs 350 to Rs 460.
  • On the M3 Motorway (Lahore to Abdul Hakeem), car tolls have risen from Rs 500 to Rs 650.
  • The M4 Motorway (Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and Multan) now has a car toll of Rs 850, up from Rs 650.
  • For the M5 Motorway (Multan to Sukkur), the toll for cars has jumped from Rs 900 to Rs 1,050.

These increases follow a similar hike in August 2024, when the NHA raised tolls on the M2 Motorway. This reflects a broader trend of rising toll rates, as the government looks to address low tax collection from highways and motorways. Increased operational and maintenance costs, alongside the country’s financial challenges, are driving these frequent adjustments. Travelers should anticipate higher commuting costs on these key routes.
