Kerala (Pakistan News Online) famous actor of Malayalam film industry and former general secretary of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) Edavela Babu war arrested by Kerala Police on Wednesday on charges of rape. However, he was released on bail later as he had already secured bail from a district court in Ernakulam.
According to media reports, Babu’s arrest came a day after actor-politician M Mukesh was arrested on similar charges, but was released on bail.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Edavela Babu after a three-hour interrogation at the Coastal Police Headquarters in Kochi and later, he was taken to the Ernakulam General Hospital for medical examination.
The allegations came after the Hema Committee report, when actress Minu Muneer exposed incidents of physical and verbal abuse in the Malayalam film industry.
Minu Muneer in a Facebook post named seven people including Edavela Babu, M. Mukesh, actor Jayasuriya, Maniyan Pillai Raju and others. The actress claimed that Babu had demanded sex in exchange for AMMA membership.
