Lahore (Pakistan News Online) Rumors of an alleged marriage between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Hammad Azhar and renowned anchorperson Shiffa Yousafzai began circulating on social media. These rumors gained traction after a young journalist made claims about the union, which led to significant public speculation.
The rumors intensified when Hammad Azhar responded to a tweet by the journalist, further fueling the debate. However, Shiffa Yousafzai has now broken her silence, dismissing the rumors as baseless and false.
Shiffa Yousafzai’s Response to marriage rumors
In a statement released on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shiffa Yousafzai wrote, “Dear all, let me be clear, I have not married anyone! However, the social media campaign targeting me reminds me, like it should remind all working women, how vulnerable a woman is in male-dominated Pakistan, constantly having to explain her existence! (This isn’t the first time I have been targeted like this.) I request all social media platforms to delete this nonsense and urge all decent men and women to refrain from participating in this witch hunt. I also thank everyone who has supported me.”
Hammad Azhar’s Reaction
In response, Hammad Azhar also addressed the circulating rumors, calling them fake. He urged people to report the accounts spreading these false claims and said, “There is a fake rumor about me circulating on social media. Please report the accounts spreading this misinformation. This is just a distraction to divert us from our real goal of liberating Pakistan from tyranny. Report it and ignore. Thank you.”
Origin of the Rumor
The issue began when journalist Najam-ul-Hasan Bajwa shared a message on X claiming, “A handsome senior PTI official from Lahore recently got married to a journalist. Congratulations to both.” Social media users quickly began speculating about the identities involved, with many linking Hammad Azhar’s name to the rumor.
After witnessing the rumors spreading rapidly, Hammad Azhar decided to respond. In a humorous reply to the journalist’s tweet, he said, “My name is trending under your tweet. Thanks to everyone for considering me handsome. If something like this happens, I will inform you all in time,” adding a laughing emoji to his response.
Journalist Najam-ul-Hasan, seeing Azhar’s response, cryptically replied, “Mr. Hammad, you are indeed considered handsome in Lahore. You have the right to deny it, but I stand by my report.”
Although the journalist did not mention Shiffa Yousafzai by name in his message, her name was widely speculated on social media. However, no independent sources have confirmed the validity of these rumors. Both Azhar and Yousafzai have strongly denied the claims.
