Delhi (Pakistan News Online) After the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Political party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated cabinet minister Atishi Marlena as the new CM of Delhi.
Indian media reports state that Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena after a meeting and proposed Atishi Marlena’s name as his successor. In a meeting of AAP legislators, it was officially announced that Kejriwal had nominated Atishi Marlena for the Chief Minister’s position, which was endorsed by all party members.
Atishi Marlena has previously served as the Minister for Education and the Public Works Department in the Delhi government.
It is noteworthy that Arvind Kejriwal resigned after being released on bail following six months in jail related to the liquor policy case.
Who is Atishi Marlena Singh?
Aam Aadmi Party named Atishi Marlena Singh as the new Chief Minister of Dehli because 43 year-old MLA has been a front face of party ever since former deputy CM Manish Sisodia was jailed in excise police case.
Atishi Singh was appointed as the Minister of Education, P.W.D, Culture and Tourism in the Delhi Government in 2023. From 2015-2018, Marlena served as an advisor to Sisodia on educational strategy and policies.
Atishi born on 8 June 1981 did her Schools education from Springdales School (Pusa Road) New Delhi In the year 2001, she graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with History as her major. Atishi then went on to study at Oxford University where she was a recipient of the Chevening scholarship and completed her master’s in History in 2003.
In 2013, Atishi joined politics with the Aam Aadmi Party and played an instrumental role in drafting policies for the party council. She was also part of the historic Jal Satyagraha in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh in 2015.
Atishi fought from Kalkaji, South Delhi in the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections where she defeated BJP’s Dharambir Singh by 11,000 votes.
