As her lawyer claims she is mentally ill, social media has been in an uproar, demanding the harshest possible punishment under Pakistani law.
Amid the controversy, images of Natasha Danish Iqbal have gone viral on social media, but not all of them are real. One such image, showing Natasha making a victory sign with a group of lawyers standing behind her, has been widely circulated. The image was portrayed as if she was making the gesture outside the court, but it has now been revealed that the image is fake and was created using artificial intelligence (AI).
The image quickly spread across social media without verification, leading users to raise questions and express outrage.
Senior journalists like Hamid Mir and Asma Shirazi also shared the image. However, after being informed that the image was fake, Asma Shirazi deleted the post and issued an apology, stating, “Apologies, thank you for informing me, I have deleted the image.”
Similarly, Hamid Mir also deleted the image from his Twitter account after being notified of its falsehood, though he did not issue a statement. Journalist Wajahat Kazmi commented on the situation, criticizing those who cannot distinguish between AI-generated and real images, yet criticize state institutions on sensitive matters.
Senior journalist Irshad Bhatti and PTI leader and lawyer Naeem Bukhari were also among those who shared the fake image. Naeem Bukhari posted the image with a message accusing the suspect of mocking Pakistan’s legal system.
It is important to note that the Karsaz accident claimed the lives of Aamna and her father, Imran Khan, when Natasha Danish Iqbal’s speeding vehicle ran them over. The viral image misrepresented the situation, and it serves as a reminder to verify information before sharing it on social media.
