New York (Pakistan News) A growing number of Gen Z TikTokers are sharing their experiences of embracing a little-known sexual identity known as ‘abrosexual.’
Abrosexual, this term describes a fluid sexual preference, where an individual’s attraction to different genders shifts over time. For example, one might be attracted to men for several years, then switch to women, and possibly back again.
According To ‘Daily Mail Online’, On social media those who identify as abrosexual describe their sexuality as a dynamic aspect of their personality that evolves. Despite finding comfort in this identity, many abrosexual individuals report facing skepticism and harsh criticism from friends and family, who often dismiss their sexuality as “unreal.”
TikTok user @luciaismagic, who identifies as gender fluid, explained to their 444,000 followers that “abrosexual is used to describe people whose sexuality changes over time.”
One notable voice in the abrosexual community is journalist Emma Flint, who publicly shared her journey of discovering this identity. Growing up in the 1990s, Flint was only aware of traditional labels like straight, gay, or lesbian.
It wasn’t until she turned 30 that she realized her sexuality fluctuated between lesbian and bisexual. After discovering the term abrosexuality on the Instagram page of LGBTQ+ advocate Zoe Stoller, Flint found that it aligned with her experiences, despite facing criticism from those around her.
Flint describes her discovery as a “lightbulb” moment that has given her greater self-understanding. She often encounters confusion when discussing her sexuality, but remains patient in explaining its meaning as long as people are respectful.
The conversation around abrosexuality is gaining traction on social media platforms like Reddit, where users discuss the fluid nature of their sexual attractions. One commenter noted, “It’s different for everyone but all it really means is your sexuality is fluid, much like how gender is fluid for some people.”
Flint emphasizes that being abrosexual does not impact her love life or change her feelings in romantic relationships. “I love the person, rather than their gender, so it doesn’t matter if my sexuality fluctuates while I’m with them,” she said.
As the understanding of sexual identities continues to evolve, advocates like Flint stress the importance of learning about new terminologies to foster greater acceptance of diverse identities.
