Muhammad Asif breaks silence on spot-fixing scandal

Lahore (Pakistan News Online) Former Pakistani fast bowler, convicted in spot-fixing Muhammad Asif have spoken openly about fixing scandal for the first time in his career.

AVideo gaining attention on social media in which Muhammad Asif being interviewd by famous journalist aftab iqbal, former crickter regreted and accepted that he made a mistake, he said “Perhaps I have hurt someone’s feelings or disobeyed, for which Allah has punished me through this incident. I am grateful that I received my punishment in this world.

Remember that Muhammad Asif , Muhammad Amir and Salman butt convicted in spotfixing during match against England in 2010, in which Muhammad asif made 2 no-balls in an over.

In spot-fixing case, Muhammad Asif was banned for 7 years, Salman butt for 10 years and Muhammad amir for 5 years.

The anchor said to Muhammad Asif that he had fixed the matter by bowling just two no-balls in the match, not to lose the match. To this, Asif responded that whatever it was, it destroyed his career, and he could have progressed further. He mentioned that some good batsmen of that time said it was good that Asif was banned, as they got rid of him.

Muhammad Asif stated that he had sought forgiveness from Allah and the nation, but some hard-hearted people are still not willing to forgive him. Commenting on the T20 World Cup 2024, he said that the pitches made for it were favorable for bowlers, making it extremely difficult for batsmen to play on them. However, those batsmen who played with patience and spent more time on the pitch succeeded.

In response to a question, Muhammad Asif said that other countries did not complain about the pitch; this justification was only given by our team. He mentioned that as far as the Pakistan team is concerned, their coach was appointed just a short time before the World Cup, whereas India had been working hard for a long time and knew which players would play.

He further said that the effort India put into preparing and coaching their players, if they had put the same effort into their B team, they would have won the tournament as well.
